Chapter 16 Summary

Valancy sees living at Roaring Abel's house as living in her Blue Castle. She changes her mind somewhat when she lays eyes on what Roaring Abel's looks like. When Valancy walks in the house, Roaring Abel compliments Valancy's ankles. This is the first compliment Valancy has received in her life. Valancy finds a very ill, broken and changed Cissy. Cissy says she is grateful to have someone because she is lonely.

Chapter 16 Analysis

Ironically, Roaring Abel is a carpenter by trade, but his own home is in disrepair. Cissy and Valancy are living parallel lives. Both of the women are alone. Additionally, both of the women are dying.
