Summary

In Chapter 13, Mr. Bossart returns and apologizes, saying there seems to always be some incident at the office parties. He predicts Mr. Shalimar will not remember his behavior and hints that Barbara should not mention it. Caroline leaves, planning to meet Paul, and Mr. Bossart asks Barbara to join him for a drink. Though she knows he probably already asked Caroline, she agrees. She plans to ask for a raise soon and hopes her compliance will help her chances. At a bar, Mr. Shalimar introduces her to Sidney Carter who owns an agency that sells, among other things, a perfume called Wonderful. Barbara has a tiny bottle in her purse. Mr. Bossart leaves them alone. Sidney asks for her honest opinion about an advertisement for Wonderful in her magazine.
