Summary

They Only Come for the Wild Maiden – During the unproductive harvest, Konstantin finds himself torn between the strange, powerful attraction he feels for Vasya and his determination to win her soul for God. Meanwhile, Anna sees the attention Konstantin pays to Vasya and, angrily jealous, tells Pyotr it is time for Vasya to be married. Pyotr, who feels himself getting old, recalls Marina’s desire to give birth to a daughter like her mother, but also thinks it is time Vasya settled down. When he consults Dunya, she shows him the jeweled pendant that she has been keeping hidden and tells him that she has been visited by the winter king in her dreams, who has promised to claim Vasya the following winter. Protesting her love for Vasya, she tells Pyotr to get Vasya married, saying that spirits stay away from married women...
