The Beak of the Finch Important People
Peter Grant
He is one of the main characters of this book. The study of finches on Daphne Major, which he and his wife conduct, is a major break through in the theory of evolution. This includes natural selection, climate variable, sexual selection and many other factors that are becoming more apparent the longer the research continues. He is a professor at Princeton and has been working on this research for over twenty years.
Many people in the field of evolutionary biology compare Peter to Darwin himself, not only in thought, but in actual likeness as well. He fell in love with the idea of studying the finches in the 1970s when he was concluding another research project. He did not expect to spend over twenty years on the Galapagos Island. However, his research along with that of his wife, has given the field of evolution the proof and credibility it needed.
