Summary

"Satan’s Interviews – Blaise": As he speaks with the elderly, animal loving Saint Blaise, Satan admits that the reason he has stayed with Jacob for so long (his entire life, in fact), is that Jacob amuses and delights him. For his part, Blaise says that he loves Jacob because Jacob loves animals, and also loves his friends, adding that Jacob was the reason that the circle of friends around him and Doc continued to exist. He makes particular reference to Lou who was, according to Blaise, the pretty one and the somewhat effeminate one – unlike Jacob, “who learned to put on the mask at an early age” (243).
