Summary

In Chapter 3, set in 1947, Charlie woke when a man asked her who she was. Charlie remembered how Eve had threatened to shoot her if she was still there in the morning, but the man with the Scottish accent told her if Eve had been really drunk, she would not remember having threatened to shoot her. When Charlie joined the man in the kitchen, he introduced himself as Finn Kilgore. He said he was Eve’s errand man since she could not do much with her crippled hands. Charlie thought for a minute how she had come there trying to save Rose and was reminded how she was unable to save her brother, James. When Charlie asked what sort of accident might have caused Eve’s hands to look they way they did Finn said he did not think it was an accident...
