Chapter 8 Summary

Though Casey is grounded for smoking, drinking, long-distance calls and disappearing for an entire day, Mrs. Melvin allows her to visit Haven because she is sick of dealing with her daughter. Casey discusses her plans to sneak off and visit Rick when she gets her license soon, and when Haven objects that it is a bad idea, Casey insists Haven does not understand since she has never been in love. Casey stops short as she notices Gwendolyn Rogers standing in the middle of the yard, and Gwendolyn is so tall she makes Haven feel small for the first time in a long while. Gwendolyn looks at the girls, but Haven doubts she actually sees them. Casey notes that Gwendolyn looks horrible as Haven drags her away.
