Summary

In Chapter 11, Adam is picked up at the airport in Sacramento, California by Fred Gusman. Patti has gotten Adam into a program at Pathway Home. This program required veterans to stay there at least four months. Even though she wanted Adam to get help, Saskia was very unhappy about Adam’s decision to go to California. Fred tells Adam that he might be unnerved by the program at first because there are no locked doors and no privileges for good behavior. Outside Adam’s room is a palm tree that he considers climbing to the top of and then jumping.

Saskia sends Adam text messages that he does not return. When they do talk, they fight. She wonders what he is doing and how he is doing. He screamed at her on the phone one day and she could hear him breaking things. She...
