Summary

In Chapter 9, working down the hall from Patti is Tim Jung, the sergeant first class who works with the new arrivals at the WTB. One day he drives out into the Kansas countryside intending to write letters to his children and then kill himself. As he sits by the river, he realizes how beautiful it is. Suddenly, he no longer wants to die. He goes back to the WTB to work with the veterans whom he knows will all have a day when they want to go to the river.
