Chapter 8 Summary

The chapter opens with Tex's observation that seeing Negrito the second time was even harder, and that the only thing that helps him keep his mind off this bad memory is his relationship with Jamie. They have started going out, although Tex is not sure exactly how it happened. He and Jamie have decided that they have to keep their status secret from Cole, who would not want anyone dating his daughter, especially not Tex. In conversation with Tex, Jamie talks about her family; in particular, she discusses how her older brother, Blackie, disappointed Cole by not going into sports. Jamie says she thinks Cole would like to have Mason for a son. Tex does not agree, but Jamie explains that Mason has his life together, while Blackie does not have much direction,.....
