Chapter 6 Summary

Before the brothers leave town, they decide to visit Lem's house. There, they meet Lem's new baby before Lem takes them for a ride in his new car. Mason asks Lem what he has been doing, and Lem admits that he works as a "go-between," selling drugs. Mason tells him that this is a stupid thing to do. After they return to Lem's apartment, the brothers leave, and Tex realizes that he will probably never see Lem again. He feels sad about this, as he has known Lem his whole life.

Tex drives the two of them home. On the way, to take his mind off Lem, Tex decides to pick up a hitchhiker. Shortly thereafter, the hitchhiker tells Tex to keep driving to the state line. Tex realizes that the hitchhiker has a gun in Mason's side, so Tex keeps driving, maintaining his cool. The hitchhiker...
