Summary

Pathka wakes Tess up and asks to go to a home to get metals to make a new thnk. She follows him through the fog to a hunting log using a ferry rope to swim across the river. As the sun comes out, Tess tries to conceal more of herself, but accidentally goes under and realizes she has not explicitly decided to keep living. Pathka drags her to shallow water where Tess spends the rest of the day trying to learn how to swim.

Once they make it to the hunting lodge, Tess goes to the front room to watch for the caretaker. However, two thieves named Rowen and Reg kick the door down and bring in an old man named Griss.
