Summary

In Chapter 13, Jim recounts the story of how Teancum and his extended family members came to settle in Zarahemla. When the group arrives at the family camp, Teancum's youngest son rushes to greet them, followed by other members of the family. Jim realizes that Nuahmi, Teancum's wife, is beautiful, though not by modern-day standards. Jim and Garth are very pale compared to these people. Moriancum's two youngest daughters remain at Jim's side. He notices Moriancum's daughter, Menochin. He makes an excuse to talk to her but realizes he looks ridiculous in the process. Jim reveals that his real name is Jamie, but he says he prefers Jim. Menochin says a person's given name is sacred and decides she will call him Jamie.
