Chapter 9 Summary

Polly, Nora, Colm and Marilyn go to Gertie to tell her the news about Jack. Gertie is in shock and denial. Gertie begins to sing Jack's praises. No one has the heart to shatter Gertie's delusions at this point. Ria and Rosemary receive word that Jack is dead. Ria plans to fly home immediately to be with her friend. Annie balks at leaving early until she learns that the Maines will be flying on the same plane back to Dublin.

Rosemary calls Danny to tell him about Marilyn's blackmail. Danny tells Rosemary it's over between them.

Annie and Brian say good bye to their new friends. Hubie is sad that Annie will be so far away. Zach is excited about plans to visit next year. Ria says goodbye to her new friends and each is sad to see her go back to Ireland...
