Prairie View, Texas

Prairie View, Texas was the location of Sandra Bland's encounter with Brian Encinia. Bland had just moved to the town from Illinois to begin a new job at Prairie View University the day before her arrest. Noticing Bland's out-of-state license plates, Encinia decided to find a reason to pull Bland over, believing her suspicious. On the side of the Prairie View Highway, Encinia arrested Bland for failing to signal, threatening her and pulling her from her car. Though Encinia testified in court, saying the area was known for its high crime rates, Prairie View was a quiet college town.
