In The Shambler from the Stars the unnamed narrator is a writer of weird tales who ekes out a bare existence in order to pursue a life devoted to a study of the weird. The narrator eventually locates a Latin copy of Ludvig Prinn's De Vermis Mysteriis, a suppressed and hated book of vile secrets penned by an infamous necromancer.
