Summary

In Chapter 19, “Thank You for Calling,” Maud remembers the night Jess did not come home and how she called people. Before Maud left to go look for Jess, she left a note for Jess. After midnight, Maud called the police. In the present, Maud gets calls from people in community offering condolences. Adam calls Maud and asks her not to hang up. Maud tells him that she has been waiting for Adam to call. Adam asks Maud if Jess ran away because of him and Maud tells him that Jess did not run away. Maud explains that Jess left a note that she was going for a walk that day and Adam is frustrated that Maud never told him that. Adam tells Maud that he loved Jess.
