Summary

In the Prologue, while browsing a bookshop, Gil, the novel’s male protagonist, finds a letter addressed to him tucked between the pages of a book called Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead. When he moves to the bookshop’s window for natural reading light, he spots a woman whom he believes to be his estranged wife. After examining her clothing and mannerisms from a distance, Gil feels convinced that the woman in question is indeed his wife and decides to pursue her through the stormy streets of town. He notices a white plastic bag caught on the claw of a tyrannosaurus rex at the mini golf course. Gil calls Ingrid’s name several times to no avail but remains determined to reach her.
