Book One, Part Three, Chapters 12-18 Summary

Sister Creep's initial thought in Chapter 12 is that she is in Hell. When she climbs to the surface she suffers a mental breakdown, realizing that she has not lived through the Rapture but through something evil. She is standing amidst hundreds of dead bodies and she runs, leaving her bag behind. She comes to 42nd street where the Empire State Theater still stands. She senses danger, but enters the theater looking for food. She encounters the man who likes movies, unharmed, and he rips off her burned-on crucifix. Then he catches fire, his face shifting, and Sister Creep escapes just before the whole building burns down.

In Chapter 13, Josh, Swan, PawPaw, and Darleen are alive in the basement. Josh has been badly burned and lost one ear. The store has collapsed on top...
