Most of Swan Song takes place in New York City, with the immediate aftermath of the Esquire publication playing out in the city. Truman, Slim and Babe all live in Manhattan. Many scenes in the novel occur in different restaurants across the city. It is at the very restaurant, La Cote Basque, that Truman gets the name for one of the publications he writes for Esquire.
