Baker City, Oregon

The novel takes place in Baker City, Oregon, where the narrator Flynn has lived all his life. It is a small town near the border with Iowa, and Flynn describes it as relatively dull. He explains, "Everyone knew everyone else's business. Dated the same people, went to the same lame parties, ate at the same broke diner. We had a bank, a post office, a library, a supermarket, and a dirty old movie theater that screen Marvel flicks.
