Mr. Katagiri

Mr. Katagiri is the story’s protagonist. He is a 40-year-old man who lives alone in an apartment in Tokyo. He works as a collection officer for a large bank. His work entails collecting money owed by people who took out loans. Katagiri’s work is sometimes dangerous, as he must sometimes collect money from dangerous people such as gangsters. However, Katagiri is courageous and shows no fear. Katagiri has no family apart from a brother and sister with whom he rarely communicates. After Katagiri’s parents died, Katagiri put his siblings through college and arranged marriages for them.
