Summary

The story opens in Tokyo, in the apartment of the protagonist, Mr. Katagiri. It is February, 1995. Mr. Katagiri is arriving home from work, and in his apartment, he is greeted by an extremely large, talking frog. The frog says that Mr. Katagiri should refer to him as Frog. Katagiri is understandably startled and confused. Katagiri thinks to himself that this must be some type of prank being played on him by a person in a frog costume. Frog is calm and courteous, and he begins making tea for them to share. Frog apologizes for not contacting Katagiri in advance; Frog says that the matter at hand is urgent.
