Chapters 8 - 14 Summary

At the beginning of Chapter 8, Robicheaux goes to Swede Boxleiter's house to question Boxleiter about the nature of his friendship with Cisco Flynn. Robicheaux thinks Boxleiter is blackmailing Cisco Flynn. The supposition is that Boxleiter told police that the suspect was hiding in the pipe. If Robicheaux's hunch is correct, then Megan Flynn's prize-winning photograph is based on a lie. Swede Boxleiter denies any wrongdoing and Robicheaux leaves.

While he and Clete Purcel are out fishing, Purcel tells Robicheaux that it is possible that the Giacono family has a contract out on Cool Breeze Broussard. Clete learns from Igor (a Giacono associate) that the family is not as powerful as it once was. Igor tells Clete that the Giaconos sometimes outsource their hits (assassinations) to other crime syndicates. Robicheaux and Purcel disagree about Megan Flynn.
