Section 9: pages 164-189 Summary

In The Play's the Thing to Catch the King, Mrs. Amberson tells Scarlett that Donna Spendler is a selfish person who does not care how her ambitions affect other people, so she plans to convince Donna to audition for a fake TV show, causing her to blow her audition for a big role on Broadway. With a veiled threat against Spencer's career, Mrs. Amberson convinces Scarlett to assist her, promising the prank will not ruin Donna's career. She asks Scarlett to send Spencer to her because she will need a small crew to pull off the fake audition.

In Performance, Mrs. Amberson gives Eric, Spencer and Scarlett directions for how they will play the role of the television crew, and though Scarlett is ready to leave when she learns she will be reading a role for the fake audition...
