Chapters Nine and Ten Summary
In Chapter Nine, Meredith tells Mrs. Mues that she didn't tell her father about them and that she doesn't think he saw her come into their apartment. Mrs. Mues tells Meredith not to worry, that she will take care of him. Meredith thinks of the way that not even her mother has realized that Mrs. Mues is the slim attractive woman with whom her husband cheated on her. Now that Mrs. Mues realizes that same man molested her son, she has dedicated her life to bringing Charles Shale down.
Mrs. Mues takes with her the largest ceramic Jesus figure off her wall as she goes to confront Meredith's father. Meanwhile, Meredith heads into Andy's room where she collides with his wheelchair. When Andy first hears Charles' voice, he says out loud that he used to call him...
