The point of view in this novel is first person, through the narration of Shawn McDaniel. Shawn is a somewhat unreliable narrator because he is suffering from cerebral palsy and cannot communicate with the outside world; therefore, some of his impressions and understandings of the world around him are slightly confused. However, this small amount of confusion helps show the reader the depth of Shawn's intelligence and character, proving how smart he is that he knows the things that he does and how strong he is that his limitations do not upset him as deeply as it would most people who know what it is like to walk, talk, and eat.
