Chapter 27 Summary

Shad checks the parking lot for Darrell, but finds nothing. The Pontiac is gone. Erin calls the local sheriff to report Darrell's fugitive status and the fact that he needs desperate medical attention. They seem uninterested. Erin goes home and Shad follows her. Nothing happens.

Upon Shad's return, Orly announces that the Lings are trying to steal Urbana. They have offered her $1,000 to work at their club. Orly also tells him that the Lings have called the Health Department on him. They have served him a violation notice because of unsanitary conditions in the pasta wrestling area. Orly wants some revenge, but Shad refuses to engage in arson. Urbana returns, upset, from her meeting with the Lings. She will not be working for them. The shorter Ling groped her.
