Chapter 20 Summary

Merkin and Picatta, Darrell Grant's police overseers, get a collect call. Darrell's in jail in Martin County for stealing a wheelchair and he wants their help. They refuse to take the call, and, instead, let him know that he's about to lose custody of his child and that they are upset with him for giving them a bogus tip. Darrell has troubles with another inmate who isn't happy about the fact that Darrell's in jail for stealing a wheelchair from an old lady with polio. Darrell is apparently beaten silly by the other inmate: he awakens in the hospital. He discovers that he is not cuffed to the bed. His plan has worked perfectly; he can now escape.
