Summary

In Chapter 10, Karen arrives home after the appointment with Calvin, and she notices a glass on the counter that she does not recall leaving there. She panics, believing that a stranger must have been in the house. Tom calms her, saying that he or Karen could have left it there and forgot.

In Chapter 11, the police have discovered the dead body in the abandoned restaurant. The assigned homicide detectives, Rasbach and Jennings, arrive on the crime scene. Later, the medical examiner says that the man died between August 12 and 14. Detective Rasbach sees a police report for a nearby car accident on August 13.

In Chapter 12, Tom thinks about how distant Karen has seemed since the accident, and he thinks about how little he actually knows of her life before they met. Detective Rasbach arrives at Karen and Tom’s house.
