Summary

In Chapter 31, Sarai returned to her room in the citadel, where many of Minya’s ghosts had gathered holding knives and other weapons. Sarai felt uneasy around the army of ghosts even though Minya intended for them to keep the godspawn safe. Sarai drank her lull and went to sleep. The focus of the chapter switched to Sparrow, who was making a present for Ruby’s upcoming 16th birthday. Sparrow thought about when she was young and naïve and wanted to meet her human mother. Minya had told her that her human mother would hate Sparrow because her father Vanth, god of storms, had raped her mother. This made Sparrow wonder how many of the ghosts in Minya’s army the gods had violated.

The narrative moves to Feral next. Feral was in his room looking at his indecipherable book...
