Accepting Your Destiny

The story of Richard deals with his destiny. The reader will find that often Richard is fighting against what is his destiny. He fights very hard against having magical abilities. It seems odd that Richard accepts that Darken Rahl, one of the main villains, is his biological father while being so adamant that he can't possibly be a wizard. Richard loves Zedd and even though Zedd is a wizard, it doesn't appear to make Richard feel any differently about his own ability to perform magic.

If Richard accepted the fact that he is a wizard, he might have been able to remove the collar that the Sisters of Light put on him right away and perhaps would have stopped the beheading of Kahlan that took place in front of the crowd.
