Summary

At the police meeting, the detectives wrote a list of their suspects. Their list consisted of Peter and Clara Marrow, Yolande and André Malenfant, Ben Hadley and Ruth Zardo. They theorized that Peter may have killed Jane as he was jealous of her work. He and Clara were also poor so benefited from inheriting Jane’s property. The detectives also recognized that Peter and Ben were skilled archers with access to weapons. Gamache added Ruth to the list due to the secret she had been hiding. He also theorized that she may have killed Timmer in order to keep her secret and that Jane had found out. Ruth then could have hired someone like Malenfant to kill Jane.
