After reviewing what actually happens in Mexico, the novel shift gears. We return to Sarah's perspective, but she is no longer thinking about her own story. Instead, she thinks about her friend Carmen, who she ran into in an earlier chapter. Sarah thinks about how Carmen's parents are divorced, and how Carmen lives in both of their houses. She realizes the divorce might not be the worst thing. When Sarah finally arrives at her own home, the house is silent. She goes to her room, but does not hear her parents at all. She leave almost as soon as she arrives, and goes towards the B&B where Bruce is staying...
