On Monday, Sarah goes to where Earl sleeps and waits for him to wake. As she waits, she thinks back to what happened with the art show. She calls her project an original idea. The narrative then flashes back to the day Miss Smith gave the class new materials for a sculpture project. She remembers that Miss Smith is nice to her, because of "what she saw" (91). Most of the class gravitates towards plexiglass, which is a new material to work with, but Sarah thinks the plexiglass is boring so she takes it home and her mom teaches her how to bend it.
