Chapter 4 Summary

Rialla wakes up in the house of Tris, the healer. As she wakes up, she feels great, except for the huge, festering wound on her thigh. Rialla realizes that all of her original empathic abilities have returned to her. She feels a nearby presence that she can only describe as beautiful, and certainly not human. Tris enters and checks on her leg, and she sees that he is very good at healing. Tris tells her that Laeth has been blamed for murdering his brother, Lord Karsten, and he is being held prisoner. Since Lord Winterseine is his closest living relative, Lord Winterseine wants to reclaim all of Laeth's valuables, especially his slave. Tris indicates that he knows that Rialla is not just Laeth's slave, so she tells him everything.
