Summary

In Chapter 16, Lucas went to visit Connor early the next morning because Lucas’ mother said Connor had come by the night before wanting to show Lucas something. Connor’s mother greeted Lucas at the door and said that Connor was excited to show Lucas his kitten.

Upstairs, Connor and the kitten were playing with a toy mouse tied to a stick. They laughed at the kitten’s antics as it attacked and pounced. Connor told Lucas he had to go to the bathroom and handed Lucas the toy. He warned Lucas not to let her go under the bed, but she had already disappeared. When Lucas crawled under the bed after her, he noticed a box and a curved piece of wood behind the heating vent. It was the gun and box of bullets.
