Summary

Chapter 7

It is also Cassandra’s birthday. As she lies in bed, worrying about her impending death, she sees the faces of three women in her mirror. Each of the women burns to death. One resembles Cassandra’s childhood friend, Marguerite.

Chapter 8

Lizzie Rose and Parsefall are in their room at Mrs. Pinchbeck’s boarding house when they hear a commotion downstairs. Parsefall tells Lizzie Rose the police are there. Parsefall is clearly upset although he has no reason to be. The police come into the room with Grisini and ask to question the children alone. The police then tell the children that Clara Wintermute has gone missing. When the children deny knowing where Clara might be, the police search the room.

Chapter 9

After the police leave, Lizzie Rose sends Parsefall to buy them some breakfast while she goes to console...
