Ender returns to his living quarters and finds Jane, an intelligence that lives in the ansible, the computer network that connects all the Hundred Worlds, who has revealed herself only to Ender. Jane has investigated the death of Pipo and designed a reenactment for Ender to see. Jane wants for Ender to go to Lusitania and gently talks him into it by revealing that Novinha has requested for a speaker for the dead to come and speak Pipo's death, giving Ender the right to go to the planet despite the strict regulations on immigration there. Ender sees an image of Novinha and finds himself quickly drawn to the pain he sees in her eyes.
