Patricia's House

Patricia's house is the main setting for the novel. She lives in a large and expensive home with her husband and two children in the Old Village, a suburb in South Carolina. The suburb is lived in exclusively by white and wealthy people. Patricia feels out of place in the neighborhood at first. She is the only one who lets her dog off his leash in public, and her outfits are not as put-together as Grace's are. Her air conditioner is constantly breaking and she feels like she is the only one with any problems in her neighborhood of perfect houses. However, the more Patricia lives there, the more she realizes that she loves living in a community with her four best friends where people look out for one another.
