Part 2, Chapter 12 Summary

Milkman goes up to the Byrds' house in order to chat with Susan Byrd, but he is rather surprised to see another woman there, Susan's friend Grace Long. Though Milkman is keen to learn more about his grandmother, Sing, Susan is a dead end. Susan reports that her family lost track of Sing soon after she left town and Susan does not even know where Sing went, much less anything about Old Macon.

With nothing achieved from his visit with Susan Byrd, Milkman is walking back to Sweet's when he comes across Guitar waiting for him on the road. Of course, Milkman wants to know why Guitar is trying to kill him and Guitar explains that he thinks that Milkman found the gold and he is trying to run off with it.....
