Ibrahima asks to marry little Aissatou, which pleases Ramatoulaye. Ibrahima decides that Aissatou will hide her pregnancy so she can continue school until the birth of the baby. Unlike Farmata, Ramatoulaye appreciates Ibrahima's decisiveness and has accepted the fact that Aissatou is no longer a child.
Ramatoulaye seems happy that Ibrahima visits regularly; it gives her a sense of familiarity. He helps Aissatou with her schoolwork and her grades improve, but the daughters who form "the trio" do not like him, and Farmata finds him shameless.
