Summary
Ellis, Lily, and Calvin have made their way, unharmed, back to Ellis’s apartment. It is decided that Lily and Calvin will take Ellis’s bed and that Ellis will sleep on his davenport. Their rest is interrupted within a few hours, however, by a persistent knocking at the apartment’s door.
Geraldine has arrived hours early to reclaim her children, as upon hearing from Ellis that they had Calvin with them, she was unable to wait. She is now determined to go find Ruby, despite Ellis and Lily’s insistence that they wait for the arranged time to pick her up with Max’s aid. She makes a convincing case concerning Sylvia’s mental instability, suggesting that she may try to make a run for it with her daughter, and convinces them to head over to the Millstone residence early.
