Chapter 44 Summary

Hiro notes that Port Sherman is usually a very small town, but with the Raft offshore, the population has ballooned to about fifty thousand. There are refugees sleeping everywhere. As Hiro drives into the town, his motorcycle suddenly stops working. Hiro abandons the bike and continues into town on foot. Hiro sees a helicopter approaching the town from the ocean. Hiro looks up in time to see a missile that was launched from the roof of another building fly through the air and strike the helicopter, which bursts into flames. Hiro realizes that now if Gurov wants to get to the Raft, he's going to have to come down through the hotel and out to the marina. Hiro races down the street until he finds the Hong Kong franchulate. Hiro flashes his passport.....
