Hard Shoulder

The hard shoulder is the place beside the M5 where Eileen left her children in the car while she went for help. Jack dreams that he is back on this hard shoulder. In the dreams, he finds his mother only to have her slip away from him again. After Jack has mortally injured Adam and trapped him behind the passenger seat in Catherine’s car, Jack notices that they are on the M5, where he last saw his mother alive. Jack asks Catherine to let him out of the car. As he walks the same path down the hard shoulder of the M5, Jack finds the diaper bag that he and Joy left behind because it was so heavy.
