Chapter 9, Once Bitten . . .; Chapter 10, Wat Ho Summary

In Chapter 9 Alex faces his opponent again, but this time he has thought of a trick. When they are in a clinch, he spits water that he had been given between rounds into his opponent's eyes, momentarily blinding him and causing him to loosen his hold. Alex then connects with an uppercut to his jaw and a powerful kick to his solar plexus. The knocked out champion falls to the floor, and immediately the crowd becomes hostile to Alex. Sukit draws a pistol and starts firing at him just as the lights go out. In the pandemonium Alex manages to find a hiding place in one of the side rooms, and as snakehead henchmen go door-to-door searching for him, he drops through a rotted hole in the floor and into the river.
