Chapters 5-6 Summary

In chapter 5, Link attends a press conference at a local Johannesburg hotel. Link creates a casual atmosphere in which each reporter is allowed several minutes of one on one time with him. Toward the end of the conference, Link is to be interviewed by a young woman who does a women's program on the radio. However, there is some trouble with her microphone, so Link is interviewed by another reporter first. About this time, Conrad shows up. Finally the problem is fixed when Link is handed an old fashioned mic that someone has found. Just before the young reporter, Katya, is ready to begin, she takes the mic from Link, suggesting that it would be better if she holds it to prevent background noises. Just as Katya's sound man activates the mic, Katya begins to shake and falls to the ground...
