Sleeping With the Devil is written in the first person point of view from the perspective of the author, Edward Baer. Baer functions as the narrator of the book. Much of the information in the book stems from Baer's years as a case officer for the CIA. He is widely traveled and has served in various places in the Islamic world and became interested in the problems in the Middle East and curious about the organization known as the Muslim Brotherhood. Baer spends years trying to find out about them and their links to the House of Sa'ud and presents this information in the book. Writing in the first person is appropriate for this kind of book because Baer is presenting his experiences.
