Summary

In Chapter 77, Mikami thought back to the earlier day’s activities. Masato Mesaki had been arrested; the Prefectural HQ was basically empty. Mikami’s staff told him to go home, and Mikami took a taxi to the phone booth where Amamiya made his calls. Families with small children mostly avoided the location of the phone booth, a park, because the site of Shoko’s abduction had never been determined. Mikami thought about the silent calls that had been made to his house from this exact phone. Amamiya and Koda had teamed up, both angry at the police force.
