Johannesburg

Johannesburg is a city in South Africa. Shortly prior to the narrative present, the narrator and his wife move 10 miles outside of the city and onto their newly acquired farm. Though they no longer live in Johannesburg, the narrator continues traveling here for work as a travel agent.

Throughout the story, the narrator tries convincing himself that moving outside of the city was a wise decision. When friends come to visit the farm, he boasts about their farm life, insisting that they have escaped all of the city's terrible racial tensions.

After Petrus's brother's death, the narrator also travels to town to communicate with the health authorities and the police.

Farm
